The U.S.S. Kelvin was the first ship to encounter the Narada in 2233. The ship, under the command of George Kirk, collided with Nero’s in order to allow the escape of its crew. The class lives on under the Kelvin name and because of its age, it has become a common site in contested space for many years, either refitted or in its original guise.
